Alaskan native Bill Balog makes his first appearance on the poll in 2017 |
Sprint Car racing is now in full swing as every week from now through August is littered with mid-week specials across the country. This week, our voters' ballots take into consideration all of the races that were contested from June 8th-11th. In that span, twenty seven '410' races were ran with none being lost to rain!
Albeit by a slim margin, Donny Schatz maintains his hold on the No. 1 spot as carries a narrow eight point lead over David Gravel who occupies No. 2. That duo of drivers has not been able to break away from Brad Sweet, who continues to show as much speed as anyone in the country. The Kasey Kahne Racing driver has been the 3rd ranked driver in our Top 25 poll in all thirteen weeks.
The two busiest drivers of the weekend were Ian Madsen and Bill Balog, with both drivers entering four events. Madsen collected three Top 5 finishes including runner-ups with the IRA Sprints at Angell Park Speedway and against the World of Outlaws at Knoxville Raceway. As a result, the Aussie driver moves into a tie for fifth in the poll. The North Pole Nightmare, Bill Balog, beat Ian Madsen to the checkers at Angell Park for the win and finished bridesmaid in each of his three other starts.
The aforementioned Balog makes his first appearance in our Top 25 rankings following multiple appearances in 2016, meanwhile a young driver from Fresno, Calif. is making his career debut in the poll. Giovanni Scelzi has shown much promise in his limited starts, and this past weekend he won the NARC show at Thunderbowl Speedway for his second consecutive series win.
We will be off next week as Ohio Speedweek ramps up, and yours truly has a few races to be at along with other prior commitments. With that said, ballots will still be collected and points tallied. See you in two weeks!
Our panel of voting members included the following:
Anthony Corini, Blake Anderson, Brian Liskai, Bobby Gerould, Kyle Symons, Mike Leone, Mike Mallett, Shawn Miller, Tony Bokhoven and Tyler Beichner.
