A varied field of cars comprised of the World of Outlaws,
All Star Circuit of Champions, PA Posse, western PA regulars, and a few
independent travelers filled the pits at Lernerville Speedway for the 26th
running of the Don Martin Memorial “Silver Cup”.
True to form, we were there to provide another one of our
free special event contests to the fans as we hosted our 7th Annual
Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Pick ‘Em contest. Our contestant count was down,
as was the car count in the pits, but in both instances the heavy hitters still
came to play.
Stefan Bleakney took the checkers as the winner of this
year’s Pick ‘Em contest by a narrow four-point margin over second place despite
only having 5/6 drivers enter the event. His winning total of 239 points is the
closest anyone has ever come to a perfect night. The highest possible point
combination this year would have resulted in 253 points. Stefan’s roster of
drivers was composed of Daryn Pittman, Donny Schatz, Tim Shaffer, Chad Kemenah,
Brandon Spithaler and Logan Wagner. A $75 VISA gift card will be in the mail
shortly to our newly-crowned 2017 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Pick ‘Em
champion.
Finishing in the runner-up spot was Justin Ainsley, one of
our regular players when it comes to special event Pick ‘Em contests. Justin
experienced a similar fate as our winner as only 5/6 drivers showed. His driver
roster included Daryn Pittman, Donny Schatz, Chad Kemenah, Tim Shaffer and Carl
Bowser. Jack Sodeman, Jr was his M.I.A. pick. For his efforts, Justin will receive
a Silver Cup event tee shirt.
Coming home third and rounding out the podium was John
Zeigler. Unlike the Top 2, John had all six of his driver picks enter the
event, but it was not enough to garner the top spot at the end of the night.
His picks consisted of David Gravel, Donny Schatz, Chad Kemenah, Tim Shaffer,
A.J. Flick and James McFadden. John will be the recipient of our 3rd
place prize, a $15 Subway gift card.
Thanks to all players for entering this year’s edition of
the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Pick ‘Em. Please take a moment to recognize
all of our sponsors as without them none of this would be possible. Be on the
lookout for our Knoxville Nationals contest in less than a month. It is
arguably our most prestigious Pick ‘Em event, and has boasted a large turnout
each year.
