2016 Lernerville Pick'Em Year In Review; Swartzlander Crowned Champion; Record Turnout of Players

And when the smoke cleared, and the dust settled, there was one left standing!  Philip Swartzlander became the seventh different winner in the annual Lernerville Pick'Em Contest Presented by Turner's Premium Ice Tea this weekend.  Swartzlander's mode of operation was simple, stay consistent, stay near the front, and strike when the opportune moment arises.

But it was no easy championship to say the least, it was earned.  When the green flag waved on the 2016 season, rookie Tom Illar sprinted out to the early lead and looked to be in firm control with some consistent finishes of his own. Illar held the top spot approaching the halfway mark of the season, when he was passed for the lead by another rooke, Mr. Jarret Zendt.

Zendt kept a modest lead in the second half and looked primed to take home championship honors as well as the rookie of the year award until week 17, on a held over double points night when Swartzlander was able to come up with three winning selections and a 60 point night. Swartzlander then kept Zendt at bay in week 18  with an 85 point night on the final points week of the season to earn the honors as 2016 Champion!

Behind them, Tyler Beichner was able to take not only 2nd place overall, but the coveted TDN Contributor Championship as well with a last week miracle of his own! While Zent took home third place on the podium.  Hard charger Kim Gerber was a mid pack runner nearly halfway through the season but turned on the jets to finsh fourth when all was said and done, while Flip Swartzlander rounded out the top five with another stout season of Pick'Em action.

2016 Lernerville Pick'Em saw a record number of players turn out as well. Over 120 players participated in all this season, prompting the addition of the first ever full time scorer. Longtime player Frank Iudiciani, became the official keeper of the points, and deserves a huge thank you from all of us for the time he puts into doing it week in and week out. It's no easy chore, and he has done an outstanding job!

We'd like to thank each and every player for participating in 2016. We shall post the top 10 players and their scores in the National Dirt Racing Pick'Em Hall of Fame here at TDN. It's because of all of you who play week in and week out that we put our contest out there, to make the racing at Lernerville that much more enjoyable. We enjoy doing it too, and will continue to do so for years to come. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you all for playing!

And lastly, we'd like to take the opportunity to thank our wonderful sponsors who donated resources to our prize package. Specifically, Nicholas Yon and Turner's Premium Iced Tea for their tremendous support. Without sponsors, we have less to play for, and our sponsors are some of the best in the business!

Thanks everyone for playing, and congrats to our podium!  We'll see you all in 2017!
