Saturday in DIRT; Clanton Wins Thriller; Davenport and Madsen Cruise to Victory

Saturday night on the clay had a little something for everyone. A thrilling finish at Screven, a well deserved win at Golden Isles, and a repeat performance at Bubba Raceway Park, and even a little payback on the track to boot. We still haven't seen a win from the likes of Bloomquist, Owens, O'Neal or Lanigan, but it's early and for our money Davenport is headed in that direction in the near future as far as the supreme upper echelon goes.

So here's a recap of the night that was on Dirt!
From Speed51.com

Screven- World of Outlaw Late Models

66 frustrating nights on dirt came to an end for one Shane Clanton Saturday night at Screven Motorsports Complex. He earned his first WoO tour win in what had to seem like forever for him.   The Georgia based, Capital Race Car pilot started fourth in the fifty lap feature and waited patiently to make his move. Ahead of him, Friday night's winner Steve Casebolt, took the early lead from his outside pole starting spot and had Brandon Overton all over him for the majority of the race.

Behind all that action, Casey Roberts and Josh Richards were at it tooth and nail until Roberts picked an opportune moment to issue some manner of payback for an incident during Thursday's unsanctioned $5,000 main event. Richards was running sixth at the time.

The ensuing caution bunched the field back up with nine laps to go as Clanton moved closer by the lap until he made his final move on lap 50 when he thwarted Casebolt's bid for back to back feature wins with a pass for the lead.

Top 5:
1. Shane Clanton

Golden Isles- Lucas Oil Series

Jonathan Davenport set quick time for the third straight night in a row and he'd probably have traded any of those for a feature win. But tonight, the car held out and the quickest driver of the weekend during the three day mini series was rewarded for his patience with a feature win.  Davenport took the checkers for the 5th time in his career in Lucas Oil Series action after losing the lead to Jared Landers, then getting it back on lap 30 when he suffered a broken wheel. Davenport stretched out a comfortable lead over the remaining 20 laps to claim the victory.

"We finally got it done," Davenport said in victory lane.  "We have been fast all weekend, but we've just had some bad luck happen or we could have had three-in-a-row. I love coming down here to race, it's fun to run in front of this size crowd. It's the most people I have ever seen here. It was also special to win for LeRoy Rumley, today is his 79th birthday."

Top 5:
1. Jonathan Davenport
2. Earl Pearson Jr
3. Brandon Sheppard
4. Scott Bloomquist
5. Ross Bailes

Heat Winners:
  • Jonathan Davenport

Bubba Raceway Park- ASCoC Sprints

Another day, another $5,000 for Australian World of Outlaw driver Kerry Madsen. The "Mad Man" was once again fairly dominant over the course of 30 laps en route to his second win in as many nights. In lapped traffic however, Dale Blaney crept to within one second of the leader at different intervals, and was given new life with seven laps to go when the caution flag was displayed. But, Madsen proved to be too strong while Blaney kept Steve Kinser and fellow All Star Danny Holtgraver at bay to take the runner up spot.

Top 5:
