National Super Late Model Weekend Preview: It Looks Like the Weather Might Actually Cooperate.

Finally, it seems we might actually get to see the stars of late model racing get their shows in, and this weekend is full to the brim with multiple high dollar shows that should bring out the very best the division has to offer. we're going to preview each of the options for you so you can a basic idea of what you should be looking for.

Lucas Oil Late Model Series

The series visits Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe, OH on Friday night and Brownstown Speedway, in Brownstown, IN on Saturday night. These shows were originally scheduled for the 16th and 17th of March, but Mother Nature was pissed off as she has been basically all spring. The series was last in action on the 23rd and 24th of March, when Earl Person Jr. and Brandon Sheppard picked up the wins.

The weekend should make for some movement in the points, as Brandon Sheppard, who is fourth in points, will not be in attendance, as he will be headed to Farmer City to race with the World of Outlaws. This should move everybody from fourth on back up at least one spot in the points.

Probably the most interesting storyline going into the weekend should be the point battle at the top of the standings, as the point leader Jonathan Davenport is only five points ahead of second place Josh Richards, and just thirty points ahead of third place Earl Pearson Jr.

Current Lucas Oil Points

1 49 Jonathan Davenport 1455
2 1R Josh Richards          1450
3 1 Earl Pearson, Jr.         1425

13 39 Tim McCreadie       1140
14 22 Gregg Satterlee        1105
15 28E Dennis Erb, Jr.       1100

World of Outlaws Late Model Series

The series should finally get it's season going after being dormant since February's DIRTcar Nationals. They're also running two shows, but both shows will be run at the same track, Farmer City Raceway, in Farmer City, Il.  This show, much like the Lucas shows mentioned above, was originally scheduled for a few weeks ago and was rescheduled for this weekend.

This weekend will be the true start of the WoO's point season, as second point points Dale McDowell and Lucas regulars Scott Bloomquist, Josh Richards, Jonathan Devnport, and Tim McCreadie, who are also in the top ten in WoO points will not be in attendance, because they'll be at Atomic and Briownstown.  This should move most drivers up many spots in the points, and being that it's only the fourth and fifth points races of the season should see some movement from everybody else as they finally get their season going.

The big storyline going into the weekend should be the points battle between point leader Brandon Sheppard and current third place, but soon to be second place in points Chris Madden, who is only four points behind. The track is in Brandon Sheppard's backyard , and he has hundreds of laps there over the years, so he's got to be the favorite, however, Madden seems to have his BWRC race cars rolling te best they have been in a long while.

Ultimate Super Late Model Series

The Ultimate Series rolls into Bill Sawyer's Virgina Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA for the first of two 20k to win shows for the series at the track for the year. The big shows at VMS usually attract a pretty diverse field when they're scheduled up against the national tours, and I'd expect this weekend to be no different.

The big storyline going into the weekend has nothing to do with points, even though it is a points paying race. It's pretty much just lets see who takes home the big cardboard check, and there are a bunch of guys headed there that could take home that check. A full list if expected entrants can be found here.
