Dale McDowell looks to take $10,000 at Senoia Raceway this weekend (Patrick Miller Photo) |
With both national tours on the shelf this weekend, the action shifts to some very nice regional offerings that will most likely see some of those national drivers invading. There'll be some drivers enjoying the Easter Holiday as well as several of them have the weekend marked off on their schedules.
It'll be great just to get some big money races in the books as mother nature has been a total hardass so far in 2018, wiping out a total of seven races in the month of March between the Lucas Oil and World of Outlaw Series. Here's what's on tap this weekend! If they're in your area, we don't have to tell you, get your ass to the track! You won't want to miss these

MLRA Opens Season at LaSalle Friday/Saturday
When we say MLRA, the first two names that come to mind are normally Terry Phillips and Rodney Sanders. However, at the annual Thaw Brawl at LaSalle Speedway (IL), it's anybody's race. Josh Richards won the 2017 brawl. This year, the winner's share on Saturday night will be $15,000 to go along with the $5,000 to win preliminary night on Friday which should draw some big names to the legendary 1/4 mile bull ring including Dennis Erb Jr., Shannon Babb, Tony Jackson, Jason Feger, Brent Larson and Frank Heckenast Jr. plus others.
One driver to be on the lookout for will be Canadian standout Ricky Weiss who comes in fresh off the heels of a respectable weekend performance with the Lucas Oil Series and two weeks removed from a $6,400 victory at Toccoa, Georgia.
Ultimate NE Late Models Debut at Hagerstown- Sat
The newest player in the Mid-Atlantic Super Late Model scene opens for business this Saturday night at Frankie Plessinger's Hagerstown Speedway (MD) as the Ultimate North East Late Model Series kicks off it's 2018 season with a $4,000 to win, $400 to start program. Austin Hubbard will look to fend off area heavyweights such as Jared Miley, Gary Stuhler, Matt Cosner, Ross Robinson and 2017 track champion Kyle Lee. There should be over 30 cars on hand on the legendary oval in a full program that will include time trials and the weather at this time looks like a go!

Carolina Clash Late Models @ Fayetteville Speedway-Sat
The Carolina Clash brings round two to Fayetteville Speedway (NC) on Saturday night with a $10,000 to win program at the 1/2 mile speed palace. Jonathan Davenport took round one with his victory at Lancaster Speedway (SC) two weeks ago. Davenport won't be in attendance this Saturday, but the usual suspects should be including tour regulars Ross Bailes, Dennis "Rambo" Franklin, Doug Sanders, Johnny Pursley and others.
But there's more! World of Outlaw regular Chris Madden and Lucas Oil Series wheel man Bobby Pierce will be crashing the party as well as former World of Outlaws driver GR Smith who is coming off the heels of a $5,000 victory in Southern All Stars touring action in Florida on March 17.
Spring Nationals Late Models at Senoia Raceway Friday/Saturday
The Schaeffer's Oil Spring Nationals will grace the clay at Senoia Raceway (GA) for a weekend doubleheader on Frday and Saturday. Friday's show will make a $3,000 payday for the winner on Friday while a $10,000 novelty check awaits the winner on Saturday night.
Winston, GA based driver Michael Page is off to a hot start in the area as evidenced by a $4,000 win Ultimate South East Series action on March 4th at North Georgia Speedway and took a weekly win at Senoia on March 17, edging Shane Clanton in the process. He leads a strong local contingent including Donald McIntosh, Clint Smith and many more.
Be on the lookout for Dale McDowell who plans to join the festivities this weekend!
Lucas Points Battle Heating Up
As the artist Meatloaf once sang, "Tow Out of Three Ain't Bad" and such was the case with the Lucas Oil Series last weekend as they got their first shows in the books since Florida/Georgia Speedweeks. Earl Pearson Jr. came up with some last lap heroics, passing Scott Bloomquist on lap 50 to take the $12,000 victory at Boyd's Speedway (GA) last Friday night while the World of Outlaws defending champion, Brandon Sheppard finished first under the checkers at East Alabama Motor Speedway on Saturday. The action helped get some point standings clarity, although Jonathan Davenport maintained his series points lead through the weekend.

WoO- The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
Tom Petty sang it, rest in peace Tom, and for the drivers of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models, it rings completely true. The tour hasn't put a race in the books since Volusia as rain and snow have kept the action off the track four times thus far. They'll try again on Friday, April 13th when the rescheduled Illini 100 Weekend takes place at Farmer City Raceway (IL)
