Weekend Preview: PA Braves the Cold; Rain Wins in the Lone Star State

Brian Montieth looks to start hot following his 2017 Lincoln Speedway track championship
Now that racing in the Sunshine State is behind us, we look ahead to our weekly tracks to provide our fix. For Pennsylvanians, they get their first chance this Saturday as the hallowed pigeon hills of Lincoln Speedway look to host the their annual "Icebreaker 30".

According to our trustworthy weathermen, it's not the ice that they'll be worrying about...current forecasts call for temperatures to hover around 50 degrees (in 2012, a red was thrown during hot laps because it was snowing too hard to see. Twenty minutes later, cars were back on the track). The chilly temps won't be an issue, it's the 60% chance of the "R" word that we'll be keeping an eye on.

Here are the last 10 winners of Lincoln Speedway's "Icebreaker 30":
2017 - Danny Dietrich
2016 - Greg Hodnett
2015 - Greg Hodnett
2014 - Adam Wilt
2013 - Brian Montieth
2012 - Adam Wilt
2011 - Brian Montieth
2010 - Fred Rahmer
2009 - Brian Montieth
2008 - Niki Young

You can expect a stout field of 410's, as per the norm in Central PA. Brian Montieth claimed his sixth Lincoln Speedway track championship in 2017, all of which have come in the last 10 years. You can expect most, if not all, of the remaining drivers in the top 10 in points to be in attendance: Alan Krimes, Chad Trout, Jim Siegel, Freddie Rahmer, Cory Haas, Tim Glatfelter, Gerard McIntyre Jr., Glenndon Forsythe & Brandon Rahmer.

The most dominant driver last season, however, was Danny Dietrich. He still picked up 7 wins at the Abbottstown, PA oval despite missing multiple events while traveling to other races. Forget the Florida struggles, he's the favorite two claim his second straight "Icebreaker 30" crown.

The Greatest Show on Dirt will have to wait a few more days before getting back on the track. Rain and wet grounds have forced the postponement of Friday's event at Cotton Bowl Speedway (moved to April 25th) and the cancellation of Saturday's race at LoneStar Speedway.

The World of Outlaws Sprint Cars last ran at Cotton Bowl Speedway in 2016 when Brad Sweet passed his teammate Daryn Pittman on the final lap to pick up the win. They'll hope to find nice weather when they visit on their way back across the country in late April. The Outlaws will be back in action next Wednesday and Thursday as part of the NASCAR weekend in Las Vegas.

We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that at least one part of the country will get to see 410 sprints this weekend. As for the rest of the country, hang in there, your time will come!
