On Tap; Who Wins Free Cheese In Wisconsin?; Outlaws Terrorize Canada; All-Stars Blow Up Atomic

After a few weeks off, it's time to bring back on of our favorite segments where we get to tell you about what to be on the lookout for on the track in the way of events....and what beer would best complement them from time to time as we beg for a beer sponsor that need only pay us in product to be a complete partner here at TDN!

This week we offer up a great find for the beer connoisseur. It's an incredibly drinkable product from Erie Brewing Company called Railbender Ale. It's very balanced, not too sweet, not too dry, not to hoppy, with subtle tones and a nice head, but a nice alcohol content too!  We recommend this one, it's a beer drinker's beer if there ever was one! And, it has been known to give you whiplash from your belches too which as good a reason to drink some as any!

So, if any representatives of the Erie Brewing Company would like to sponsor our on tap segments for free product, it'll be fine by us, we'll sing your praises and chug your beer for you with pride!

Now then....here's what's On Tap this weekend!

Free Cheese Available In Wisconsin...and $50,000

Yep, it's that time of year again as the World of Outlaw Late Models take to the legendary Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wi for the 28th running of the USA Nationals. Some lucky driver goes home with a 25 pound wheel of smoked gouda...and $50,000.  The three day event actually starts Thursday night and concludes Saturday with the 100 lap final which takes place after what is probably the best pre race driver introduction production in dirt racing today!

Who's hot coming in? We don't need to tell you it's Jonathan Davenport, but be on the lookout for the traditional favorites in Scott Bloomquist, Billy Moyer, Jimmy Mars and the like. It won't have the same feeling without Brady Smith and Brian Birkhofer now that they've retired, but be on the lookout for AJ Diemel from the local contigent and also USMTS star Rodney Sanders will be looking to make an impression!

How to follow:

Our partner, DirtOnDirt.com has everything you need with pay per view broadcasts all weekend long, and a great dirtwire recap page with all the results and storylines! Don't miss it! Don't have a DoD subscription...get one!!

Outlaws Terrorize Canada

The greatest show on dirt continues their assault north of the border at Brockville Speedway on Friday and Autodrome Drummond in Quebec on Saturday.  Earlier this week, big block modified star Stewart Friesen won his first WoO Sprint feature at Oshweken Speedway, making him the first Canadian since Tim Gee, to take a WoO Amain.  We're not 100% sure whether Friesen would dare skip Fonda on Saturday (most likely not) to partake in racing at Drummond, but it's fun to play "what if".  Donny Schatz will be looking to take the sweep and pad his enormous point lead, but these tracks might just lend themselves to different driving styles, it'll be an interesting weekend for sure.

Points Coming Into the Weekend:

1. Donny Schatz- 7281
2. Shane Stewart- 6915
3. Kerry Madsen- 6828
4. Brad Sweet- 6787
5. Joey Saldana- 6780

All Stars Blow Up Atomic...and PPMS

Dale Blaney leads the All Stars into Atomic Speedway (OH) this Friday and Saturday, and then on to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania's Motor Speedway on Sunday. He'll encounter some tough locals at both locations, but also from tour mates Sheldon Haudenschield and Parker Price Miller. The two young guns seemingly get better every week and have been a true pleasure to watch develop in 2015.  If your in the area, don't miss these shows!

Points Coming Into the Weekend:

1. Dale Blaney-3548
2. Cody Darrah- 3379
3. Chad Kemenah- 3305
4. Greg Wilson- 3291
5. Tim Shaffer- 3161

TDN Western Frontier Modified Rankings Volume 2

And welcome back for the second edition of out Western frontier modified rankings. Mother nature has cooperated a little better for this review period as Mercer, Sharon, Lernerville and the BRP Mod Tour all got a fair amount of dates in, relatively speaking.

Now for those who are new to these...let's explain a few things.

We include all big block and 358 drivers in the Western, PA, Eastern OH geography, however if a driver from outside the area spends time at a weekly show in our neck of the woods, their results from their other home track will be taken into account.

Rankings Explained:

For the second volume, we'll use results from early June through July.

Here's a few guidelines to consider, these all factor into rankings placement.

  • How many races did the driver partake in
  • How big are the purses
  • What is the level of competition at home tracks or in special events
  • Bad luck factor, wrecks, mechanical problems
This is for entertainment purposes only, we like to have fun, but if you object to the order of the list, feel free to make a comment. Just remember, no vulgarity is tolerated

Pat Miller Photo

Now then, let's get this thing started!

1. Rex King Jr- Last Month-1

King Jr retains the top spot in volume two based on a pair of wins with extra money on the line. Firstly, he took home $5,000 for the BRP Tour win at Tyler County, and he ended the review period with a thrilling late race victory at Lernerville as part of Modified Mania, taking another $2,000 for the effort. He's got another weekly win at Lernerville as well since early June as well, and currently sits second in BRP Tour points behind King Sr.  It would be complete domination for King Sr, but he's had some bad luck here and there, and didn't come through with a weekly Sharon victory in his last four tries. Still though he's been money in a pair of money races so far and maintains a slight advantage over our second ranked driver.

From Mod Tour Racing Facebook/A.Rapp

2. Erick Rudolph- Last Month- Unranked

Okay, so some of you are saying to yourselves, "what's he doing in the rankings". Things change folks, and now that Erick is a true outlaw more or less for the rest of 2015, he's free to pick and choose where he's driving, and lately, he's selected this area.  He's got some Lernerville and Sharon starts in the review period, so we'll throw his Ransomville season into the mix like we would for Williamson at Merrittville or Richner at Sharon.

So now that we have that straight.  He had a damn fine time since he's been here with a $5,000 BRP Tour win at Tri City and another one at EXPO, plus a couple of strong showings at weekly shows in our area and a couple of Ransomville wins. We're not sure how long it'll last, but he's here for now, and he's one of the best running in this area

3. Mat Williamson- Last Month-3rd

Williamson moves up a spot here with a pair of Lernerville victories since early June. He currently leads the points there, and has yet to finish outside of the top five. He also scored a victory at his other home track (Merrittville) in the review period and looks to have shaken off a bit of a rugged start there.  So far, the BRP tour hasn't exactly been kind to him, but he's got two special event wins in other places. This was a really close call, and had it not been for the big Tyler Co win for King Jr, Williamson could easily have been in our top two here, and may just yet be come our next update! It'll be fun finding out.
Pat Miller Photo

4. Rex King Sr- Last Month- 4th

The elder King faired fairly well for himself for this period with consistent top 5 finishes at Lernerville and a win at Sharon plus three podium finishes in four attempts there. Bigger than that, he finds himself atop the BRP tour standings and will be hard to displace from that perch in the second half of the season.

5. Brian Swartzlander- Last Month- 2nd

Mr. Swartzlander got himself a victory at Sharon in June and has been his consistent self at Lernerville, save for one night where he suffered some mechanical misfortune. We'd love to see him in Merrittville and Ransomville in SDS action in a few days. Here's hoping the car is sorted out, if so, look for an even better second half to 2015.

6. Dave Murdick- Last Month- 7th

Murdick took the BRP tour opener at Eriez in June and has top 10 and top 5 finishes at Lernerville. He currently sits 4th in mod tour points and is still a threat to win every night, and we're still looking for a hot streak that's probably coming soon.

7. Rick Richner- Last Month- 8th

Rick picked up a Sharon win two weeks ago and currently sits third in BRP tour points as we speak which is actually pretty remarkable for the Niagara frontier driver. His Ransomville stats have been a bit pedestrian, but the level of competition there is high, and luck needs to go the right way there. It's not like Danny Johnson pulls in and wins every Friday!

Pat Miller Photo

8. Garrett Krummert- Last Month- 5th

Don't let the slight tumble in the rakings fool you for a minute. Krummert's as good a threat to win at Lernerville as anyone else we can name, and he's getting it pointed in the right direction at Sharon as well. More than that, he's looked completely comfortable on BRP tour nights currently residing 6th in points there.

9. Jimmy Holden- Last Month- 6th

The mayor of the Mercer 358's is king of the field once again. If fields were a bit more full there, he may have had a higher ranking.

10. Jim Weller Jr- Last Month- 10th

He took home the Lou Blaney Memorial victory with the likes of Rudolph, Swartzlander, and a pair of Kings in the house, that in an of itself merits a ranking, though a few more Lernerville appearances would help his chances of climbing this ladder.

And that's it for July. We'll be back in late August/early September for round three and have a year end review after the Steel City Stampede!

The TDN Weekly Supler Late Model Power Poll: Week 12

Hey there kids. Tis' Monday evening, so that means it's time for me to post an update to these rankings that I toil over. Okay, I really don't have to toil over them. I set up the scoring so it's pretty easy for me to keep track of in about fifteen minutes each week, so long as tracks get their results in timely fashion. Which I have to say, even Roaring Knob is meticulous about now after being a deadbeat for most of the first half of the season. I'd like to think my putting them on blast for lazy updating led to the much improved updates on their site, but I know it's probably not the case. Or maybe it is. Who knows?

That said, this week, Lernerville and Marion Center had specials, and specials don't count in these standings, so no points were scored at either track. Port Royal and Bedford took the week off, in Bedford's case to setup for the fair there this week. Port Royal had a scheduled week off. Everybody else got their regular shows in.

I was able to find full results from last week for Marion Center, and those points will be reflected in this week's rankings.

So let's get to some rankings.

1. Mike Blose**, 33 points. Mike went scoreless this week.

2. Clate Copeman****, 30 points. Clate also put up a goose egg this week.

3. Jeff Rine***, 29 points. Jeff's points came from a second at Selinsgrove Saturday night.

4. Max Blair***, 27 points. Max picked up the win at Eriez Sunday night for his points this week.

5. Scott Rhodes**, 26 points. Scott scored a big five points with a win at Dog Hollow Friday.

5. D.J. Troutman**, 26 points. DJ took an 0fer this week.

7. Dwyane Tanneyhill*, 20 points. Dwyane's points came from a third at Dog Hollow Friday.

8. Alex Ferree*, 19 points. Alex had a scoreless weekend too.

9. Steve Campbell***, 18 points. Steve won Saturday night at Selinsgrove for his points this week.

9. Greg Oakes, 18 points. Greg ran second at Eriez Sunday night for his points this week.

And that's the first ten names on the list this week. Just four more weeks to go for this poll this season. Seems like the top of the poll is getting pretty tight, should be an interesting August. Weather looks like it should be fantastic this weekend, so pretty much everybody should get their shows in. I'm thinking I might even take in the show at Lernerville this week. Until next week, be young, have fun, and drink Pepsi.

Peace.

This Week in DIRT

In lieu of our normal scattered, covered, and smothered updates known as the TDN Weekend Scoreboard, we bring you yet another edition of This Week in DIRT. Let's face it, there's a lot to keep up with if you follow just about everything that races on dirt, and it helps to have everything in one place since so many people are just too damned lazy to look up stuff like stories and results. But life does get in the way of dirt racing enjoyment sometimes.

Maybe you were bitten by a shark at the beach while you were drunk, trying to surf and ignoring the life guards plea to stop harassing pelicans and to pull up your improperly fitting swim trunks.  Maybe in laws that don't like racing stopped by for a cook out that lasted 8 hours too long, ruining any chance to get to the track or follow the action accordingly on twitter, race monitor, or ppv sites. Maybe your significant other kept you tied to the bedposts, or the lawn mower all weekend.  No worries, we'll help you catch up on the week that was in DIRT!  You get that free here at TDN!

Donny Schatz Appears on Milk Carton

(News Flash) : Schatz wins a race! At Lebanon Valley with less than a full field on hand

Yes, Donny Schatz sucks! Mr. Damn You Donny has not won a race in quite some time, (Since July 11th to be exact, unless he doesn't suck tonight at Lebanon Valley). The folks in Central PA were quick to point out as much too when he failed to win either night at Williams Grove this weekend.  Oh, to win so much to be hated is a true delight for the driver, and don't think Mr. Schatz doesn't relish in it.  Let's face it, if you go 7 races out of 90 or so without winning and people proclaim you to be in a slump, you're doing something right. By the way...if he hadn't have run out of gas at Eldora, you'd be calling him King Donny.

So, enjoy it Schatz haters of the world, he's had a rough two weeks, but know that he'll be off the milk crate in no time.

In the meantime, the Posse swept the action at the Grove, and (we should have made a separate headline) The All Stars threw a PA/OH ass whipping on Mr. Schatz at Lernerville this past Tuesday night courtesy of Mr. Darrah and Blaney.

Here's some recaps from the races:

Davenport and Moyer Point and Laugh at Outlaws-

Jonathan Davenport has never come close to being on any kind of milk crate in 2015, in fact his level of dominance has almost matched Schatz's (before he sucked). And he hammered that point home with a victory over the Outlaws at this weekend's Prarie Dirt Classic, picking off Dennis Erb on the last lap to take home $27,000 plus other contingency prizes not limited to a lifetime membership in the jelly of the month club and a free bushel of corn!  To add insult to injury to the Outlaws, Billy Moyer took the victory on Thursday at Quincy, IL

Rodney Sanders To Host Saturday Night Live

When you're hot, your hot. And also, a good choice to host Saturday Night Live! Series Producer Lorne Michaels recently let slip that Sanders would be hosting SNL as soon as the season opens in September and was quoted as saying "He's the real deal, and he's bringing his car too and also he's bringing BBQ Beef Brisket from Texas for the whole cast, and he wins! Movie stars are overrated, whiny little (expletives) we want real people on the show and it doesn't get more real than Rodney Sanders!"

Michaels couldn't have been more spot on, if there's as dominant a driver on dirt that's ascended to Schatz (When he doesn't suck)/ Davenport levels, it's Sanders who won this weekend's World Dirt Modified Championship at Deer Creek, MN.

The Story from Lernerville: King Jr., Hawkins & Hilton score wins on Modified Mania Night

'Modified Mania' took to the action track on a beautiful Friday night for racing.  Late race drama was the theme of the night as restarts proved to be the deciding factor in multiple events.  Rex King Jr. stole the $2000 payday in the Big Block Modifieds after a caution on the white flag lap erased a huge lead for Mat Williamson. Ryan Montgomery drove from 4th to the victory on a late race restart  in the RUSH late model makeup feature.  Jacob Hawkins went unchallenged to victory in the Renegade Modified Tour event, as did Adam Hilton in the Renegade Modified tour feature. To round out the evening, Joey Zambotti scored his first Sportsman victory of his career after late race drama occurred between Wayne Carbo and Corey McPherson going for the win.

Diehl Automotive DIRTcar Northeast Modifieds

A pair of Kings made up the front starting row of the 30 lap event, with Rex Jr. racing to the early advantage over his father.  Carl Murdick and Shawn Fleeger tangled on the backstretch on lap 1 to slow the early pace. King Jr. once again took right to the cushion and held the early lead with Rex Sr. in tow.  Steve Feder, Mat Williamson, and Kevin Bolland battled for 3rd in the early laps. Williamson got the best of the battle and took 3rd on lap 4 off the inside line.  Garrett Krummert's attempted slide job on Feder did not end well for either driver, as both went off the track in 3 and 4 to bring out the yellow on lap 6.

Yellows continued to fly, seemingly in two lap intervals on lap 8 and 10.  Williamson was able to get by King Sr. which allowed him to pull alongside King Jr. on the lap 8 restart. King Jr. chose the bottom, but it was Williamson who charged from the outside to the lead.

Williamson quickly extended his lead by utilizing both the high and low grooves on the lap 10 restart.  By lap 20, Williamson had a straightaway lead over King Jr., while Dave Murdick, King Sr. and last starting Erick Rudolph battled for 3rd.

Williamson looked destined to record his third straight victory but on the white flag lap, Jeremiah Shingledecker spun to erase his five plus second lead. Williamson again chose to start on the outside on the restart, which had worked flawlessly in the prior restarts.  However, this time it did not. King Jr. used the moisture off the bottom to pull even with Williamson down the frontstretch and then slid into the lead going into 1 and 2. Williamson crossed over to regain the lead down the backstretch coming to the white flag lap. But when Williamson's car failed to find traction on the inside of 3 and 4 coming to the white flag, King Jr. charged to the outside to the lead and stole one from the St. Catharines, Ontario driver.

King Jr. picked up $2000 for his efforts, Williamson settled for 2nd,while King Sr., Rudolph and Murdick rounded out the top five.

Renegade E-Mods

Jacob Hawkins charged to a commanding early lead from the outside pole in the 25 lap feature. His brother Jared quickly followed suit, taking 2nd from Derrick Ramey on a lap 1 restart.

After two early yellows, the racing went uninterrupted the rest of the way. The Hawkins brothers quickly gaped the field as both had over a straightaway lead over 3rd place. Jacob rode the cushion around the action track and went unchallenged to the victory, although lap traffic did make things interesting at times for the Fairmont, WV driver.

Jared was able to keep Jacob in his sights but could not mount any serious challenge for the victory.
Ramey held off David Scott, the former Lernerville Sprint Champion and many time late model winner, for the third spot at the finish, while New York's Rich Michael Jr came from 12th to finish 5th.

RUSH Modifieds

Pole sitter Jordan Eck took the early lead in the 20 lap feature, but by lap 2 he had his hands full with Brandon Ritchey and Adam Hilton closing. Ritchey attempted to pass to the outside of Eck, but it was Hilton who used the moisture off the bottom to take the lead on lap 3, just prior to a caution for Rocky Kugel and Kole Holden.

On the restart, Hilton jumped out to a commanding lead, as the Buffalo, NY driver had his 3A glued to the bottom.

Brandon Ritchey cleared Eck and Nick Ritchey for 2nd, but would spin in turn 2 on lap 6.
Yellows plagued the middle portion of the 20 lap event. Hilton proved strong on each restart, while Nick Ritchey rode in 2nd and Rocky/Larry Kugel battled for 3rd.

Hilton continued to ride the bottom groove following the final lap 13 restart. Nick Ritchey tried to mount a charge on the outside but was no match for Holden.

Nick Ritchey rode home 2nd followed by Larry and Rocky Kugel. Holden, who won the RUSH Sportman Modified engine giveaway prior to the feature, charged to finish 5th after the earlier caution.

RUSH Late Models

Twenty-Six of the region's best crate late model drivers returned to the action track for their makeup feature from July 3rd. John Waters and Daryl Charlier paced the field to green with Waters taking the early advantage on the outside. 4th starting Corey McPherson quickly moved to 2nd on the outside as well, while 6th starting Max Blair charged on the inside to take 3rd.

By lap 6, lap traffic was already a factor for the lead trio of Waters, McPherson and Blair.  Waters powered his #11L machine between two lap cars on lap 9 to extend his lead.  The next lap, McPherson slid high off the cushion in turn 1. Blair had no where to go and the two drivers made contact which allowed Blair to take 2nd from McPherson.  At the halfway point, Waters held nearly a 3/4 straight lead over Blair, Charlier and McPherson.  Meanwhile back further in the field, Ryan Montgomery, Kyle Lukon, Tommy Schrinhofer, and Alan Dellinger were under a blanket battling for 5th.

Third running Charlier suffered a flat tire on lap 21 to bring out the race's only caution.  Seemingly the theme of the night, this caution was the deciding factor and erased a sizeable lead for Waters.  Waters chose the outside on the restart, with Blair to his inside.  The two drivers battled hard for the advantage going into 1 and 2, which caused both cars to push up the track.  This allowed Montgomery, who restarted 4th to slide under both to lead lap 22.

Waters fought back the next lap with a slider off turn 2 to momentarily hold the lead. However, Montgomery would retake the lead at the white flag and then charged hard off turn 2 to score the win in dramatic fashion. Dellinger slid into 2nd at the white flag after Blair and Waters again made contact on the last lap. Waters scored a disappointing 3rd after dominating the first 21 laps, while Schrinhofer charged to take 4th on the final lap over Blair.  Montgomery came from the 11th starting spot for the victory, while Dellinger drove from 13th to 2nd.

Millerstown Pic-A-Part DIRTCar Sportsman

The 20 lap Sportsman feature saw Wayne Carbo and Joey Zambotti on the front row. Zambotti held the lead on lap 1, but it was Carbo who pulled a slider off turn 2 for the lead the following lap.  The race continued to run green through the halfway point, with Carbo maintaining the lead over Zambotti.  Jason Fosnaught and Corey McPherson, who was pulling double duty in the C33, battled side by side for third for many laps, but it was McPherson who took 3rd for good on lap 11. Zambotti's car begun to push several times in the middle stretch of the race, which allowed Carbo to extend his lead.

Carbo's three second lead was erased on lap 18 as Adam Lipinski spun to bring out the caution.  This setup a restart with Carbo on the inside and Zambotti on the outside.  Zambotti was able to get a decent restart to hold pace with Carbo, but as the battle intensified, both drivers pushed high off turn 2. This allowed McPherson to make it three wide for the lead and ultimately take it coming to the white flag. Carbo mounted a challenge on the outside and then would drive into McPherson, sending his car into the outside barrier and spinning in front of the field.

McPherson made a remarkable recovery to keep the car going in the right direction, which allowed him to keep the lead.  Carbo was sent to the rear of the field for rough driving following the incident.  McPherson's front end was badly damaged, which setup an interesting Green White Checkered restart.  On the restart, McPherson pounded the cushion and looked to have the lead on the outside coming to the white flag. However, he would push way high off turn 4, allowing Zambotti to move into the lead on the inside. Zambotti held the point from there, taking advantage of the late race drama to score his first Lernerville Sportsman victory.  McPherson managed to drive his damaged car to come home 2nd, while Fosnaught took 3rd, Brandon Wearing made a charge to 4th and Bob Lipinski came from 10th to finish 5th.

Silver Cup Pickem - Final Standings

Congratulations to Jason Stearns on claiming the Silver Cup Pickem trophy! It did not come easy, though, as he fought off Butch Sherwin by a mere 1 point to take the crown. Stearn's winning picks were Joey Saldana (Qualifying), Donny Schatz (Feature 1), Dale Blaney (1), Joey Saldana (2), and Paul McMahan (2).

Butch Sherwin's close second was highlighted by his picks of Schatz/Blaney in Feature 1 and Joey Saldana in Feature 2.

Zach Foust (@zwf412) rounds out the podium, a distant 7 points back of the top spot. Foust relied heavily on Donny Schatz - picking him for qualifying and both features. 3rd place finishing Daryn Pittman was also in his arsenal.

Congrats to our top 3 finishers, we will be in contact with you in the coming days to organize the delivery of your prizes.

Thanks to all other players that entered our contest. We, along with our sponsors, appreciate more than you can imagine. Until next time, continue your endless research for our next contest and be sure to get plenty of dirt in your diet!

The TDN Weekly Super Late Model Power Poll: Week 11

Hey there folks, I know, I know, It's Wednesday and that's a couple days late for my weekly update. I had some everyday life things going on and took care of that before I sat down to write this week. Nothing serious, though. Just a case of a broken lawn mower, repair, then cutting the grass. If any of you saw my yard, you'd know what a pain in the ass my ward work can be with just a push mower.

Anyways, that's all taken care of now, so I got time to let yinz jags know what's up. By the picture accompanying the article, I'm sure you've deduced by now that a new name is at the top of the list (tentatively, more on that in a 'lil bit).

So this week, everybody on the list got a show in but Roaring Knob, who didn't have supers this week and actually had the results up in a timely fashion, Selinsgrove, who rained out, and Port Royal, who had a special and as you know, those don't count here.

Bedford had two regular features, so they both scored points. Everybody else just had a regular show. So far I have only been able to find out the feature winner at Marion Center, so only one driver has scored points thus far. I'll update when I find out the full finish and I'll reflect those points in next week's writeup.

That said, let's get to some rankings.

1. Mike Blose**, 33 points. Mike took over the lead this week with a second at Dog Hollow Friday night.

2. Clate Copeman****, 30 points. Clate didn't score any points this week, unless he ran second through fifth at Marion Center Saturday.

3. DJ Troutman**, 26 points. DJ got a second and a fifth in Bedford's two features Saturday night for his points this week.

4. Jeff Rine***, 25 points. Jeff's point this week came from a fifth at Bedford.

5. Max Blair**, 22 points. Max picked up the win at Marion Center Saturday for his points this week.

6. Scott Rhodes*, 21 points. Scott's points this week came from a fourth at Dog Hollow Friday.

7. Alex Ferree*, 19 points. Alex didn't score any points this week.

8. Dwayne Tanneyhill,*, 17 points. Dwayne didn't score any points this week either.

9. Jared Miley*, 15 points. Jared won at Lernerville Friday for his points this week.

9. Dylan Yoder*, 15 points. Dylan didn't score any points this week.

9. Jim Yoder*, 15 points. Jim didn't score any points this week either.

And that's the first ten names (okay, eleven, but ties and what not) on my spreadsheet this week. It's nice to have tracks actually get shows in. Looks to be a good weather weekend this weekend too, so some points should be scored next week, too, except Lernerville, Marion Center, and Selinsgrove all have specials scheduled that won't score any points on this poll. Oh well.

Keep in touch with yourself.

Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Preview

Ahh it’s that time of year again. The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series is about to kick off their “Month of Money” this weekend at Eldora. After the Outlaws wrap up their Kings Royal weekend at the Big E, they’ll begin the roughly 5-hour trek to Sarvertown for the 24th running of the Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup Twin 30’s.

The Silver Cup was an instant fan-favorite at its inception in 1992. Drivers have come and gone since then, as well as a fantastic promoter in Don Martin, but the race has stood the test of time. And if you need any extra incentive to pack the stands next week, keep in mind that the Outlaws will not be returning in September for the Commonwealth Clash.  Let’s go ahead and dive on into what you can expect from the 2015 edition of the Silver Cup, shall we?

The reason so many fans and drivers love Lernerville Speedway begins with the varying track conditions. Anyone who has attended in the past has experienced the range of track surfaces that the red clay presents. If you’re in attendance next Tuesday (which you should be), expect a tacky track heading into Turn 1 and a “slick-as-snot” surface as drivers search for grip off of Turn 2.

The Silver Cup also marks the only time that you can see The Greatest Show on Dirt run two Main Events within one program. The illustrious format will see all A-Main starters run a 2nd 30-lap non-points race with all lead-lap cars from the first feature being inverted. What does this mean for fans? Most likely that they’ll get to see Donny Schatz run through the field in the 2nd feature after winning the 1st A-Main (I’m only slightly kidding).

What drivers can you expect to show next Tuesday evening? I’ve compiled a list of for-sures and possibilities. Don’t hold me to this list, as I know that not everyone will show up. But if the weather is good, I do expect a strong field of 40 or so of the best 410 Sprint Cars in the region. With that said, here’s a possible list of drivers:

WoO: Donny Schatz, Shane Stewart, Joey Saldana, Daryn Pittman, Kraig Kinser, Jason Sides, David Gravel, Jacob Allen, Logan Schuchart, Brad Sweet, Kerry Madsen, Paul McMahan, Jason Johnson

PA Posse: Danny Dietrich, Aaron Ott, Greg Hodnett, Lucas Wolfe, Brent Marks, Brad Howard, Wayne Dadetto

Western PA: Carl Bowser, Ed Lynch Jr., A.J. Flick, Jack Sodeman Jr., Brandon Matus, Brent Matus, Rod George, Eric Williams, Rod George, Brandon Spithaler, Sye Lynch, Adam Kekich, Dan Kuriger, Scott Priester, Dan Shetler, Jimmy Morris, Jared Zimbardi, Zach Morrow, Bill Kiley, Davey Jones, Gale Ruth, Bobby Siegel

ASCoC/Ohio: Dale Blaney, Tim Shaffer, Chad Kemenah, Danny Holtgraver, Ryan Smith, Sheldon Haudenschild, Greg Wilson, Lee Jacobs, Cody Darrah, Parker Price-Miller, Danny Smith, Paige Polyak, Andrew Palker, Travis Philo

Take a minute to soak all that in if you need to. What you see written above is a stout list of drivers, and a forecast of good weather means that most of these drivers should be there.

So now it's time to discuss the favorites. We could talk about the obvious choices: Donny Schatz, Shane Stewart, Dale Blaney, Joey Saldana. Why would I do that? I’ll skip the boring section of regurgitating information that everyone already knows and give you a list of dark horses that could very well finish at the front, or make it interesting at the very least.

Darkhorse Picks
Danny Holtgraver: 2010 Lernerville track champion. Multi-time ASCoC feature winner. Lest I forget his 19th to 2nd run in the 2011 Silver Cup

Sheldon Haudenschild: Coming off a series of break-out runs during Ohio Speedweek as well as a $10,000 Lou Blaney Memorial victory. Finished 3rd in May's ASCoC race @ Lernerville

David Gravel: The ASCoC graduate nearly won last year’s Commonwealth Clash last fall, finishing 2nd to Joey Saldana

Carl Bowser: 3 Lernerville wins during an up-and-down season. When he’s on, he appears almost unstoppable

Ed Lynch, Jr: Remember him winning the 2002 Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup? And he always times in near the front for these shows.

Where: Lernerville Speedway. 313 N. Pike Road, Sarver, PA 16055
Who: The Greatest Show on Dirt
Why: To see the Outlaws compete in not one, but TWO main events in a single evening
Ticket prices:  Adults ($35), Students ($24), 10 and under (FREE)
Who to follow: @WorldofOutlaws, @Lernerville, @TheDirtNetwork
Timing/Scoring: Will be available via Race-Monitor

The TDN Weekly Super Late Model Power Poll: Week 10

Hey there dudes and dudettes. Tis' Monday evening and that means it's time for me to update these ere ranking that I maintain. This week's article will be significantly better than the last few because,  well, all the tracks that were running got their shows in, except for Selinsgrove, because they didn't race this week for whatever reason.

That said, again all I could find for results for Roaring Knob was the winner because apparently nobody there seems to care. I can't imagine they had a lot of cars because of the shindig down at Tyler County that took away some of the cars that are normally there, but still how are fans supposed to take you seriously if nobody cares about updating the information on the website. It's not a good look. At. All.

I got to the races this week, which is rare these days because I have a little one at home and my wife is on call  (she is an MRI technician) every other weekend so I have to stay home in case she gets called into work. I decided on going to PPMS Saturday night. I know, I know, that track isn't on this poll, but they did have super late models on the card this weekend along with a hug pure stock race. It wasn't a good night at the races, but I'm not going to get into that here, this column is about positivity. If you really must know my feelings on the subject, go to my Twitter and scroll down. While you're there, feel free to follow me. I don't bite, but I do swear a bunch.

Anways, let's get to this week's top ten.

1: Clate Copeman****, 30 points. Surprisingly, Clate didn't score any points this week. I don't believe he ran anywhere.

2. Mike Blose**, 29 points. Mike's points this week came from a fourth at Marion Center Saturday.

3. Jeff Rine***, 22 points. Jeff ran third Friday at Bedford and won Saturday at Port Royal for his points this week.

4. DJ Troutman**, 21 points. DJ picked up the win at Bedford Friday for his points this week.

5. Alex Ferree*, 19 points. Alex got his points at Lernerville Friday, where he finished third.

5. Scott Rhodes*, 19 points. Scott ran fourth at Dog Hollow Friday for his points this week.

7. Max Blair**, 17 points. Max scored his points up at Eriez Sunday, where ran second. \

7. Dwayne Tanneyhill*, 17 points. Dwayne's points this week came on the back of a third at Dog Hollow Friday night.

9. Jim Yoder*, 15 points. Jim didn't score any points this week. I don't recall seeing his name in results anywhere, either.

9. Dylan Yoder*, 15 points. Dylan didn't score any points either, and I don't recall seeing his name anywhere either.

And that's the first ten names on my spreadsheet this week. Tune in next monday after the racing action to see what's changed. If you don't, you're going to look dumb in front of your friends.

Adios.

Weekend Scoreboard

We're back with another edition of our scattered, covered and smothered results from the weekend that was, in case you broke your leg playing co-ed naked volleyball this weekend and couldn't make it to your computer or Iphone!  Or in case you just hate going from website to website to find stuff!  Not to worry, it's part of the job here at TDN, and we're more than happy to get DIRT Nation anything it needs......
