The Story From Dog Hollow- Lee and Blazavich Split Late Model Features

Derek Bobik Photo

Race fans were treated to two Super Late Model features at Dog Hollow Speedway as a make up feature kicked off the racing program on Saturday night. And when the checkered flags fell, Jon Lee and Dave Blazavich found themselves standing in victory lane  Sixteen cars took the green for the make up feature which saw Clate Copeman and Shawn Claar lead the field to green.

Claar jumped out to lead and was in command comfortably until the caution waved for the number three of John Weaver. 15th starting Alex Ferree was on the move prior to an early caution, moving up to 10 spots early on in the race. When action resumed, the top five up front were Copeman, Michael Lake, Lee and Decker chasing  Claar.

Joe Petyak was bitten by the bad luck bug as the race's second caution was for his entry, but prior to the caution the car in the move was  Alex Ferree of Saxonburg Pa. Claar seemed poised to fight off the challenges as Lake challenged his lead and the two became engaged in a very entertaining race that had fans cheering the close action.

Then on lap 17 Claar's chances evaporated as he rolled to a stop in turn 4, handing the lead over to  Lake.  Single file restarts were used per track policy for the remainder of the 25 lap race and on the next restart Lake's chances went up in smoke as he rolled to a stop with a blown motor ending the night for Lake and crew.

The final restart had the 61 car of Jon Lee handed the lead with Copeman Ferree Black and Blazavich behind him on the final restart which Lee handled and them some and he was able to endure the eight lap run to the checkers holding off Ferree for the win.

The second 25 lap Super Late Model feature in addition to the regularly scheduled racing program was led to the green flag by Dave Blazavich and Robbie Black.  The theme of this feature was the sharp looking 18z would build up a comfortable lead and run consistnat laps.

Behind Blazavich was a different story. A four car battle quickly ensued with Joe Petyak, Black Matt Lux and Alex Ferree.  Six cautions slowed he race but on every restart Blazavich was smooth and consistent with the battle for second reshaping on a lap 11 restart as Lux and Ferree had the same idea.  Lux and Ferree both timed the restart perfectly as Lux went low while Ferree took to the high side and were running second and third, chasing Blazavich. Lux would get to within a couple car lengths but Blazavich was stout up front and was up to the challenge as he went on to victory lane.
