(Sarver, PA)Family means everything is an often heard phrase through out many aspects in life. Even in the world of Motorsports. King Bros Racing believes that, and having spent an evening at the races with Rex Jr, Rex Sr and former Modified and Super Late Model standout Russ King as well as the rest of family, to get to watch his family dynamic at work was an awesome experience. Rex King Jr. was the feature for this edition of at the races but once the heat races for the big block mods had been completed Rex Jr came home 2nd to his dad.
King Jr. has been at the top of the order in Big Block Modified competition over the course of the last five years scoring a Lernerville track title in 2014, and he's currently looking good for his second championship in 2018. He brings a stout body of work along with him in his experience to the current time, with titles at Sharon Speedway and with The Modified Tour as well.

The 165 (King Jr.) and 65 (King Sr.) team went to work putting their feature set-ups in for the 25 lap feature and both were optimistic about their chances. King Jr would have to come from the 9th starting spot and Rex Sr would fire off 6th. There were heavy hitters starting both in front and behind of each of them, as is the case in weekly action at Lernerville and Sharon Speedways. The number and quality of cars and drivers that can win features is fairly strong at both places where the King's have made their mark over the years. And wins can be hard to come by from time to time as Brian Swartzlander, Jeremiah Shingledecker, Mat Williamson, Jim Rasey, Dave Murdick and many others are just one slip away from snagging a win on any night.

In the 25 lap feature King Jr found the inside groove to his liking and made most of his passes on the bottom. It seemed the cautions would fall his way allowing him valuable track position on restarts. Meanwhile Rex Sr was making his way to the front challenging Jim Weller and JR McGinley for the race lead. On a late race restart King Jr. got by Weller and was in second chasing his dad and as the two races hard for the win they put on one heck of a show. The fans were treated to good hard clean racing and a King 1-2 finish at the checker flag.
”We ran second all night tonight," King Jr. said. "Big daddy was a bit better than I was tonight but it was a good night, track was good with two grooves it was fun racing there with J.R. McGinley”

The night belonged to the elder statesman however as King Sr. managed his first win at Lernerville since 2015. He'd been driving parts of if not all of every season there for the most part over the last five years, and has watched strength of the division move from Kevin Bolland, to Brian Swartzlander, to his son and Mat Williamson over his time there while enjoying success there at a high level himself from time to time. His performance was inspiring as he took advantage of his opportunities, was as fast as he needed to be and drove smooth and clean en route to victory lane. It was vintage King Sr. for 25 laps and it was fun to watch from a fan's standpoint.

King Sr. was all smiles after his feature win and very appreciative for the fans and drivers that come out to race and support the division. ”These things get harder to win the older you get," King Sr. said. "These younger kids are good and can win a lot so it means more when I can get a win."

The patriarch of King racing when asked what it meant to him to be able to race with his son added “ It means everything to me. Back in 2007 and 2008 when Russ was in a modified too it was really cool to be able to race with them both. I’m truly blessed to have been able to do this with them and as a family”.
