Tuesday night's Chili Bowl Nationals driver's roster (68 Drivers) |

Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals
Entering its 28th
straight season, the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals has undoubtedly become a
fan-favorite across the country. Unlike many large events that reach their peak
after a few years and then begin to regress, the Chili Bowl has maintained a
growth that is evident in its storied history. This year is no different as the
number of entries has topped 290 cars. The record high coming into this year’s
edition is 286 drivers, but the number of entrants this week could match that
amount and then some. The Chili Bowl has also become a worldwide attraction,
with drivers from Australia,
Canada, New Zealand, and United States partaking in the action.
This year’s show will
arguably feature the strongest field to date, with the likes of Kasey Kahne, Rickey
Stenhouse, Jr., Jac Haudenschild, Sammy Swindell, Kevin Swindell, Daryn
Pittman, Dave Darland, Kyle Larson, Dave Darland, Christopher Bell, Bryan
Clauson, Joey Saldana, Tim McCreadie, Brady Bacon, J.J. Yeley, Johnny Herrera,
and a slew of others big names all partaking in the fun.
History: Rich Vogler was crowned the first Chili Bowl
Nationals champion way back in 1987. Since then, 16 other drivers have claimed
the coveted “Golden Driller” including guys like Tony Stewart, Dave Blaney, and
Sammy Swindell. Sammy and son Kevin Swindell have dominated the event in recent
years. The two of them have collected 9 of the previous 25 Chili Bowl
championships, including 5 in a row with Kevin winning the previous four and
Sammy winning the one preceding those. The side-by-side racing, rich history
and tradition of the Chili Bowl easily makes it one of the most coveted races
around the world.
